Say H E L L O to the first comprehensive job placement resource dedicated to teaching history and social science.
With vast information at a student’s fingertips and keyboards, it has never been more important to teach history and social science with an emphasis on skills and perspectives. Giving space for students to question, hypothesize, analyze, and critically problem-solve in small groups and independently is as important in the history/social science classroom as it has always been in the science lab. Researching the elements of the human experience that have shaped us and connected us through discovery, conflict, purpose, and advancement defines the work of historians. Independent schools are uniquely positioned to offer these important thematic discussions and inspire students to not only soak in the rich accounts of the past but to eagerly engage in dialogues that promote empathy, inclusivity, and leadership. It is an exciting time to be a history teacher! Our schools need teachers like you. History/social science teachers equip students with critical thinking capabilities. Students flourish as they build confidence in selecting sources of information, recognizing various perspectives, understanding cause and effect, and defending their own thesis. Your strategic and creative lessons provide the springboard for students to collaborate as they develop historical competencies and mature as citizens in a global society. At OESIS we want to join in your job search for a history/social science position in Independent schools. We are looking forward to getting to know you and hearing about your hopes and dreams for your next position. We are excited to hear you talk about the wonderings and aspirations that are leading you to this next step in your career, as well as experiences you gained from previous schools or other professional work. We will offer suggestions as you present or revise your philosophy statement and resume. Successfully connecting you with the school community that best meets your career goals, location, and educational philosophy is our purpose. You are ready to meet your next classroom of students. Let’s work together to get you to that place. Best wishes, Debbie |
